01

For academic pathways

Academic is commonly required for undergraduate and postgraduate study and professional registration. Check the exact requirement with your receiving organisation.

02

Reports, then arguments

Task 1 asks you to summarise visual information. Task 2 asks you to develop a position. Practise selecting the right details and giving each paragraph a purpose.

03

Evidence before guessing

Reading practice develops your ability to locate, compare, and interpret evidence. Review why an answer fits the passage, not simply whether it was correct.

Know the task.
Practise the skill behind it.

Build a routine around the decisions that matter: finding evidence, choosing what to include, developing an answer and keeping to time.

Academic Reading

60 minutes · 40 questions

Work through longer texts and question types such as matching headings, completion, and identifying information or a writer’s views.

Your practice focus

Separate the main idea from supporting detail, recognise paraphrases, and return to the passage to justify an answer.

Academic Writing

60 minutes · two tasks

Task 1: a report of at least 150 words about visual information. Task 2: an essay of at least 250 words responding to a viewpoint, argument, or problem.

Your practice focus

Select key features, write a clear overview, and build an essay with a consistent position and supported ideas.

Listening

Four parts · 40 questions

Prepare for everyday and educational contexts, moving from conversations to longer individual talks. Listening follows the same core format in both test types.

Your practice focus

Follow changes of mind, track names and numbers, and check spelling and word limits during answer review.

Speaking

11–14 minutes · three parts

Rehearse familiar-topic answers, an extended individual turn, and a more developed discussion. Record and replay your practice locally.

Your practice focus

Extend answers with reasons and examples; use transcript feedback to review organisation and language, alongside your own audio playback.
